Your technical game is already sharp. The edge you're looking for now isn't in a solver. It's in the part of your mind that tilts, second-guesses, and drifts. Ayahuasca quiets that noise, and the science behind why is harder to ignore than you'd think.
What's actually costing you money
Poker is a game of small edges played across thousands of decisions.
Most losses at the high level aren't strategic.
They're psychological.
TILT
Emotions override logic
After a bad beat, the brain's threat-response kicks in. Cortisol spikes. Rational decision-making degrades. You know what good play looks like, but you can't access it from where you are emotionally.
ATTENTION
Mind wanders at the worst moments
The default mode network, the part of your brain responsible for mind-wandering, self-referential thought, and rumination, activates hardest when the stakes are highest. Present awareness collapses precisely when you need it most.
COGNITIVE RIGIDITY
Pattern-locked thinking
High-volume players develop deeply grooved mental habits. That's useful for speed, but it can make it hard to adjust when an opponent is playing something unexpected. Flexibility matters as much as strategy.
LONG SESSIONS
Mental stamina degrades
Decision quality drops across a long session. Focus erodes. Emotional regulation thins. The difference between your A-game and C-game isn't skill, it's how long you can maintain the mental conditions for good play.
"When psychedelics are absorbed, activity in the default mode network decreases. The sense of self temporarily quiets, and ruminations decrease with it."

An experience beyond a plant medicine retreat
MexiSoul Retreats is more than a place, a story, a shaman, or even plant medicine.
It’s about you.
We believe you are whole, just as you are. There’s nothing to fix and no one to become, only a return to an inner truth.
From a secluded sanctuary in the Mexican countryside, we create a safe, nurturing space to support deep transformation through plant medicine, experienced guidance, and professional integration.

Meet the staff

Humberto Alcalá
Shaman
Humberto is a shaman and facilitator of sacred medicines, but first and foremost a servant of humanity. He combines Shipibo tradition with contemporary wisdom to guide all of our sacred medicine ceremonies in the retreat. Humberto’s unique background, combined with his traditional shamanic training, allows him to serve as a bridge between the western psychology of most participants and the native South American medicines and cosmology.
